We don’t doubt that you love your home a lot ………
After all, it’s the place where you come and crash after a long day of work. It’s the place where you invite your friends over to watch TV. It’s the place where you play host to your relatives . It’s your own fortress of solitude in this overcrowded city, where you can just be yourself and zone out from the harsh reality of the physical world. The inner sanctum of your serene existence.
However, it can always be better. Look cooler, feel more personal. That the place should not only be your home but should reflect who you are as a person. It should feel part of you. And If you’ve ever felt this way, you are now ready to take some steps to change your otherwise excellent house into a living, breathing style hub .
Fear not because we’ve got you covered. Here are 5 ways you can make your apartment trendier:
1.STICK A LOT OF MOVIE POSTERS:
If you’re a film buff , this is the perfect way to express (read: show off) your taste and your impressive knowledge in film. Be extremely varied in this regard, look for everything from old Bollywood classics to 60’s French new wave movies to the recent popular summer blockbusters. Let people know how great and varied your taste in cinema is and more importantly how cool the posters look in the house and reflect your personality. You can even use a few framed posters like these :
You can get movie posters for anything from rs. 300-400 each. A Framed poster would cost around 4000 rs. But you need only buy one or two, just to punctuate the theme of the place.
2. GET SOME OFFBEAT FURNITURE:
You don’t need to really spend a lot of money here. There’s absolutely no point in buying extremely expensive furniture (even if you can afford it). Instead, focus on stuff like beanbags :
Or get a set or trendy chairs like these :
Or decorate your dining table with new types of table cloth, like this:
Beanbags with a set of beans should cost around 1500 each. Chairs would cost around 2000-2500. Use both them and chairs to form an eclectic seating pattern around the house. Don’t just settle on one theme. Rooms should have both in them.Mix and match to your heart’s content! Although try not to spend TOO much initially.
3. CALL UP YOUR CARPENTER:
Absolutely NO point in going to furniture stores and throwing your cash around! Save your money by just calling your friendly neighborhood carpenter up and tell him to get to work. For example, you can get him to make stuff like a mini- bookshelf to keep all your books :
Or an table-type construct for your bedroom wall:
Or get him to make a mini liquor cabinet like this one :
Think of any other off-beat furniture you can get him to construct for you. You can get lots of stuff without spending too much money. Let your imagination run wild!
4. GET AN EXOTIC PET :
Our advice here is to get something like a parrot or a cockatoo. They’re not too high maintenance and provide constant amusement for your guests . Also act as a big stress buster. Otherwise, you could get fish tanks installed in your house and stuff them up with some great looking fish!
A nice, medium size aquarium would cost around rs. 1500. Price of fishes are variable. Though be careful, don’t buy extremely exotic fishes at the start unless you’re sure you can give this setup proper maintenance . Give it some time to breathe.
5. WORK ON THE LIGHTING:
Set the mood and tone of your place by playing with the lights around the house. We recommend getting UV lights installed to get that amazing ‘club’ vibe in your house when you host parties…
On the flipside, buy some lamps to set the mood and lighting of the room during slow weekends and off days. In fact, you can use BOTH the lamps and the lighting to create an effect, like this for example:
UV lights are extremely cheap . Costing only something between rs. 500-1000. Don’t even bother buying extremely expensive maps. Use mid- range ones instead. Ones you can get for approximately rs. 1500
